Le Petit Prince : marvelous designer

watching stop motion footages for costume reference and drafting in marvelous designer 6. next few days process will go fast..

starting by importing my standin model AND costume head into MD6 as an avatar. i’m tailoring the costume to fit me but more importantly i’m making the costume to fit the 3D printed parts because adjusting a fabric is easier than fixing printed parts at this point. thanks god “i” don’t have to adjust my body to fit…

drafting in MD6 is fun as always. i finally got to use their new features like automatic pleat sewing and button functions. many UI  updates are also streamlined the workflow too. i started from “palazzo” or “culotte” pants, i think this is the book -> Modern Pattern Design by Harriet Pepin as a base, i drafted general shape & pleats and i cinched the hems. to keep this garment softly volumed like in the movie, i decided to make an inner-layer which fits to my body and an outer-layer for extra volume. large amount of material sags from its weight and gravity so i went for 2 layers. think like it’s a pants version of simple bubble skirt. i looked into sewing rice papers but it gets pricey and cannot find a continuous sheet of paper that can sew like fabric. also my friend said… “it’s flammable, just a friendly reminder”. Oh…

spent a quality time with my sewing machine and the garment part is almost done in few nights (while my work got busy…). i cannot stress enough how the pre-visualization steps in VR and MD6 are my vital tools to get this far so quickly.
